On Thursday, May 17, 2018, Daughters of Worth held its inaugural “Because She Matters” Gala at the Arts of the Pamlico Turnage Theatre in Washington, NC.  The event was well attended, opening its doors to approximately 70 attendees.

For the first hour, guests had the opportunity to enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, mingle with friends, and  bid against one another for specialty and handmade items donated to the silent auction by local business owners such as The Spa at Merle Norman, Monza’s Xtra Special Boutique, The Thrifty Gifter, Heart-Hand-Home Collection, Photography and gift collections by Anne Grimes, the Secret Garden Gallery, Wine and Design, The Wine Crate, 692 Olive, Inspirational gift set, and handcrafted seashell art.

Teresa Allen of Merry Hearts Ministries served as the Keynote speaker for the evening and did not leave a dry eye in the house!  This Christian comedian has been gifted with a talent to bring truth to the heart through the art of comedy.  Yet, guests discovered that even from a woman who loves to laugh and bring fun, she is also a survivor of abuse who found encouragement as a young girl from a camp counselor, who encouraged her through words of inspiration.

Former principal of Pitt County Schools and current Vice President of Program Initiatives for Boys and Girls Clubs of the Coastal Plain, Julie Cary shared the need for Daughters of Worth in our local communities.  Our girls are desperately in need of knowing their worth, having a vision for their life, and being surrounded by women who are intentional about serving them through their adolescence.  Through the gift of partnership, Daughters of Worth will have an even greater opportunity in the upcoming year to serve even more girls through this venue!

Altogether, Daughters of Worth was able to raise approximately $8,000 through the gift of donations and ticket sales for this event!  Daughters of Worth is currently serving approximately 300 girls each month through GLAM girls (Girls Living a Mission) and Notes of Hope (handwritten cards of encouragement) – 2 of its’ signature programs.  Yet, it is anticipated that this number of girls served will astronomically expand to approximately 1500-2000 girls each month as Daughters of Worth offers programs in Hyde and Johnston County during the 2018-19 school year, as well as begin to provide GLAM girls in local schools!

This growth is only possible, due to the phenomenal women (and men!) who step up to serve the girls of our communities and who give so generously to offer such incredible opportunities for the girls of our communities! To every single person who served, attended, and gave to this event, our “Thank You” is simply not enough.  Your gift of time, talent, and treasure will be used wisely to serve as many girls as possible within our communities!  Thank you for joining the tribe…. and for investing into Her!
