In 2015, Daughters of Worth was established with a vision and mission to educate, equip and empower girls of all ages to become strong women of influence in their communities. Leadership. It runs through the very veins of our organization as we seek to empower girls to Rise Up in their own lives, chase down the dreams of their hearts, and then go forth and advocate for others.

Last year, I had the opportunity and privilege to attend the Global Leadership Summit for the very first time at Jarvis United Methodist Church. It was nothing less than transformational! The nuggets of wisdom and sound advice from successful leaders across the globe literally served as a navigation tool for our organization throughout the past year.

I knew that this training – this knowledge – this experience needed to be shared. And why not with our beautiful GLAM girls (Girls Living a Mission) who have the heart and desire to serve as leaders in their homes, schools, and communities?

This year, two of our girls were selected to come and attend this life-changing event. Together, we leaned in and listened, learning that when the leader gets better, everyone wins. Our hearts were challenged and yet inspired. Our dreams were reignited, and our passion ran deep. Dozens of pages of notes were taken over the course of two days. Yet, nothing can compare to experiencing these two beautiful girls dive in, take notes, ask questions, and begin to share their dreams. Changes that they would implement in their own lives through the gift of these leadership truths.

It has been three days since the conference ended, and yet the words continue to echo in my soul… “You have everything that you need to do what you are called to do.”

Leadership is simply not about us. It’s not about the person on the platform. True leadership is about equipping, empowering and encouraging future leaders. It’s about investing into the next generation of leaders to go and carry the torch – to pursue justice – to fight for the many who have no voice.

You have everything that you need to do what you are called to do, they said. My heart listened. My soul believed. Our mission will not be complete until the girls of our communities are the ones who are leading this organization, sharing their stories, and bringing other girls into this place of freedom and joy. Their story is our passion. Their future is our why.

Thank you, Jarvis UMC and Global Leadership Summit for igniting the soul-flame of this girl leader!
