On Wednesday, May 9, 2018, Daughters of Worth was presented with a check for $5,000 from The Louise R. Lester Foundation to empower girls in Beaufort County, NC! This is the first grant that Daughters of Worth has applied for and received, and we are excited to launch a program that we truly believe will empower girls towards financial freedom!
In 2015, Daughters of Worth was established as a 501c(3) non-profit organization that exists to educate, equip, and empower girls of all ages to become strong women of influence in their communities. We live out our mission through GLAM girls (Girls Living a Mission) mentorship and Notes of Hope (handwritten cards of love and encouragement to girls in local schools). Yet, we have an even greater vision to counteract poverty and to empower girls towards financial freedom!
Many of the girls that we serve return home to no food available in the house or the utilities turned off due to poverty. We have experienced girls sleeping on the floor, with no bed or blanket. We have watched these precious ones come give us enormous hugs for providing a place to take a shower or washing their clothes for them. Poverty reaches into the core of each person that it touches, and it whispers a message, “You are not good enough.” “You are not worthy.”
Daughters of Worth believes that every girl is equipped with skills, talents, abilities, intellect and gifting that can not only serve her well in her future, but empower her today! This is the core reason behind Grace Gifts, our newest program – designed to help her create the tomorrow of her dreams!
Partnering with John Small Elementary, John Cotten Tayloe Elementary, and Washington High School, Daughters of Worth will have the opportunity to launch our newest initiative, “Grace Gifts.” Through this unique program, participants will have the opportunity to network with local women artisans and business owners, create handmade items and sell through the Daughters of Worth (soon coming) online gift shoppe and local vendor events.
Not only will the girls have the opportunity to earn their own income, but to also invest into a scholarship fund that they will have the opportunity to apply for in high school, and they will be able to support the mission of Daughters of Worth!
It is only because of The Louise R. Lester Foundation that this program will be able to launch so quickly! As the participants have the opportunity to earn their own income, invest into a scholarship fund, and learn basic business skills, we believe that this will truly be a game-changer for these precious girls!
Thank you, The Louise R. Lester Foundation for making this vision a reality for the girls of our community!
