It is now days after Christmas, and the days of last minute errands and family/friends festivities have started to dwindle, yet the magic of this holiday season continues to resonate within the hearts of those serving with Daughters of Worth!

It has been absolutely magical!

Hugs and Joy at Cypress Glen!

Empowering the girls of our communities to serve others is a significant part of our mission and vision for Daughters of Worth.

This holiday season, several of our GLAM girls visited Cypress Glen to share moments with the residents, to hear their hearts and life-stories, and to also create gingerbread cookies with these precious treasures! Yet, our hearts were absolutely amazed at the incredible experience that this presented to our GLAM (Girls Living a Mission) girls of Daughters of Worth! While cookies were being created and stories were being shared, memories were being made that will eternally live in the hearts of these girls. It was our heart to go and serve these precious ones during the holiday season, yet what we quickly discovered – instead, it was our hearts that were blessed beyond measure!

For anyone who knows Heather Joyner, the Director of The Boys & Girls Club of the Coastal Plains – Jack Minges Unit, they know that she has a heart unlike any other! This phenomenal leader goes above and beyond to ensure that every single one of her children has exactly what they need – including the courage to live out their dreams! This holiday season, the GLAM girls selected this inspirational message and created this design for their leader!

J.H. Rose GLAM girls were treated for a special evening at the home of Melissa Blandford, a Co-Facilitator of the group! Not only did the girls receive a delicious dinner, stockings and gifts, but were able to enjoy an evening of fun and fellowship with several community leaders (Gretta Smith, Renee Carter and Kara Blount). In appreciation for the sponsors who make GLAM girls and special events possible, the girls created handmade ornaments so share their appreciation!

Makayla Briley may only be 6 years old, but she has a heart and passion for serving the girls of our communities – and has already decided that she’s going to make her life count! Makayla’s mom, April Briley, often serves with Daughters of Worth – providing clothes, baby items, and other items of necessity as needs arise for the girls we serve.

When Makayla discovered that there were some girls who were homeless and in significant need, she wanted to make a difference! A fluffy pillow is what they need. With her mom’s help, Makayla not only went to go purchase these new pillows, but joyfully presented them, along with her hugs and best-wishes for these girls. Thank you, Makayla for your beautiful heart and choosing to serve others this holiday season! You are truly making a difference!

The Power of Women Inspiring Girls!

“I simply could not stand the thought of there being girls in our community who were going to sleep at night and not having warm feet or socks to wear during the day. I had to do something to change that.” -Jenn Whitehurst Wood-

“Ms. Lizzy, I don’t need anything else for Christmas, but I really need socks. I don’t have any. They are all worn out.”

This was the text that was received only weeks before the holidays from one of our precious GLAM girls!

Within hours of sharing the need, Jenn Whitehurst Wood, owner of Pitt-Greene Chem-Dry organized a sock collection with Women’s Power Networking of Greenville to provide socks for the girls in need! Because of this collective effort, girls in our communities received brand new, warm, fuzzy, and clean socks for the holidays!

Ala Gore, Usborne Books Representative, Beth Glisson & Paige Horne (Owners of The Wine Crate in Washington, NC) all had a similar heart and passion this holiday season! They wanted to give back to the girls of the community and inspire them in a tangible way!

Partnering with Daughters of Worth, the mission of providing a book for every GLAM girl that we serve in Pitt and Beaufort County (300 books for girls K-12th grade) began to seem possible!

On Saturday, December 1st, The Wine Crate opened its’ doors to Daughters of Worth and Usborne Books with Ala Gore to present an opportunity for the patrons of The Wine Crate to donate a book for a girl in their community this holiday season! In only 4 hours, over half of the funds were raised through community leaders, such as AG’s Home Solutions, who has been a supporter of Daughters of Worth over the past year!

In conjunction with another anonymous donation, Daughters of Worth was able to successfully meet the goal – of providing a book for every girl served through the GLAM girls program!

It is only through the generous donations of businesses, families and individuals that Daughters of Worth is able to serve the girls of our communities in this way! Thank you to each and every one who has been a part of empowering these beautiful girls and making this work possible!
